Welcoming Fall

8 Sep

Hello,
I apologize that it has been a few days since my last post. The last two days have been filled with hot tea and chicken soup! I have felt a little under the weather. I have a big photo shoot tomorrow and a full week of school ahead. So I took some down time to watch old Audrey Hepburn movies and sip on some hot tea. Which worked out perfectly because Phoenix has had it’s first glimpse of fall with some nice rain. I’m so thankful because quit frankly I am sick of this heat!

Speaking of fall I have to say this is by far my favorite season! The Starbucks Pumpkin Spice latte is back! So yummy!!! I can ride my bike to school without wanting to die of heat exhaustion. Snuggle up with good book and a blanket as the rain drizzles down outside my window and my dog lies comfortably snoring beneath my feet.

(Night one of being sick. Cosmo, candles, and hot tea)

I love to cook in Fall. I love to cook year round but especially Winter and Fall. I love the stews, soups, and baked chicken recipes. In fact as ironic as it is getting sick only excited me more for the Fall months. As I debated what sounded appetizing all I really wanted was chicken soup. Maybe it is reminiscing my childhood sick days, but chicken soup is still comforting. I got passed my front door and stood there looking out into the rain. Wait…. I think I have what I need to make chicken soup…. I turned back around and rummaged through my pantry and refrigerator.

I had a cooked chicken from a previous meal, a bag of spinach, some  jasmine rice from the night before, cilantro (Which is used in Mexico mainly because it helps kill bacteria), lime, and other veggies.

1. I boiled the water and added chicken bouillon, then the veggies.
2. I added the pre-cooked chicken and rice. I threw in some noodles also.
3. I added a dash of lime, cilantro, garlic salt, and (my mothers secret) a dash of cinnamon.
4. I graded cheese, and chopped an avocado to top it off.

I love when you use the ingredients in your fridge to make a spontaneous meal! Not to mention it turned out delicious! Just what the doctor ordered! I felt surprisingly better after chicken soup, a little bit of Audrey, and some hot tea with spoon fulls of Honey (which has helped me sooth my throat)! I’m not big on taking medicine. I avoid it if possible and give my body a chance to do it’s magic.

As horrible as getting sick is it is often a reminder to slow down and take care of our health. Amongst healthy eating we also need to remember to rest.

XOXOXO,

Whitney

Girl Power

Hello,

Women these days are expected to take on some form of superhero! They are expected to maintain a full-time job, have dinner on the table by 6pm, and kids in bed by 8pm. All in a clean house with neatly folded linens. Come weekend they need preparation for mentally stimulating activities for the kids. Not to mention the perfect birthday parties and BBQ’s. The only problem is there is really not enough time in the day to do it all. These modern-day super hero expectations have applied some serious pressure on women all around the world. But I have to say we have most deafeningly rises to the occasion! All while maintaining class a pristine sense of style!

Women far more powerful than even we give ourselves credit for! Do you remember hearing about that mother who lifted the car off of her child?! If that were your child under that car you would have done the same! Just one phenomenal example of a woman rising to the occasion! We take on the corporate world, the baking and cooking world, the Martha Stuart of house keeping world and do it all in the latest fashions presented by Vogue!  We postpone our “big” dreams and settle for the career that allows us to be home in time to meet in greet the children. Or search for the perfect stay at home job so you can switch the laundry out while working. Women want their children to grow up with a perfect role model! We want to be educated and successful in order to who show children that they can also be the ultimate super hero! We can lift cars and bake the perfect birthday cakes all in the same day!

The secret of all of this is that we enjoy our God-given talents to do it all. Though at times we get overwhelmed and feel like we are on the brink of crashing and burning we know that we feel empowered! Women decided generations ago that we want it all! Now we have it all! The role of the wife, the mother, and the successful business woman!

Here is a Forbes list of women changing the world!!

Working women in film! Old Movies which I also recommend on watching. You know in your “spare time”… haha. But Funny Face with Audrey Hepburn is my favorite! Every girl dreams of prancing around in a little black dress and a tiara!
